I sit next to a fellow adoptee at my job. We’ve only discussed adoption once, and I’ve often debated talking to him about Adoption Mosaic. So far, I haven’t. While recently telling an aunt about the work I’m doing for this website, I felt distinctly uncomfortable with her reaction. She asked whether Adoption Mosaic facilitated adoptions, and I could tell she was a bit confused about what there might be to discuss beyond facilitation. At that point, I switched to a different topic of conversation. The old fear of appearing “ungrateful”–especially in front of my adoptive family–loomed large.

This past May the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute put out a new report about the Multiethnic Placement Act (MEPA). This report has caused quite a bit of discussion about how transracial adoption is currently being practiced in this country.
NPR held a series of interviews around this subject. The title of the first interview we’ve listed here, “Transracial Adoption Challenged” may have the makings of a good headline, but it’s important to keep in mind that the report does not say that white parents should not adopt African-American children
